Thank you. I am grateful to you too for your well written article. As far as ‘clean’ foods. I have found the Greenwise section in Publix – which has many organic foods helpful. They often have these things written on their products – “free of artificial dyes”, “our organic foods contain no artificial flavors or preservatives”. On my webpage there is a table of contents section that can direct you to a list of foods with some pictures. On the other hand you can also find a list of foods to avoid. Of course I couldn’t list them all, but I hope that will help.

Great response Cayla! Thank you for taking the time to write.
As horrendous as this is, it is not surprising. It would be interesting to see what companies are lobbying to keep these toxic food additives in our foods. If you have any information on ‘clean’ foods we can substitute for the ones our children have been conditioned to crave, please feel free to post them here.

It is true that the FDA has done nothing despite the public outcry of millions. I am a parent who has witnessed the effects of synthetic artificial food dyes on my children and then realized that it was having an affect on my own behavior. It doesn’t take long to notice the change. I was angry that I spent two years wondering what was wrong particularly with my (at that time) four year old child. He was extremely defiant, hit his brothers and at me, and time outs didn’t seem to make him calm down. Sometimes I resorted to holding him down during his fits of outrage which were brought on by things that would normally not bother him. His hand strength was poor and his handwriting was poor during the times that he consumed the dyes. It was bewildering to say the least. My husband who is a Neurologist describes the dyes as having a possible neuro-toxic affect and it could contribute to the growing number of ADD diagnosis and medications.
Now because the FDA doesn’t seem to care about REAL people who have REAL serious side-effects to artificial colors, I decided to spread the news through my blog http://www.reddyefree.blogspot.com. Since starting the blog, other bloggers have contributed their own blogs and their stories – through blogging I found that there is a way to change the way America eats and that is by going around the FDA (since that seemed pointless). I found that major research groups were looking at my site and possibly using it to decide whether or not to sell their products without artificial dyes. I have seen a change in the past two years since blogging. More foods are sporting the labels “dye-free”, or “no artificial colors”. So one way that we can all make a difference is by spreading the word and by not buying the foods with the artificial dyes in them. After all, it is the profit that the FDA and the food companies are afraid of losing. I haven’t bought any foods with artificial dyes for two years and my children have become the wonderful kids that I thought they would be. Life is good.
